World Changing Ideas Awards 2021: Domo COVID-19 tracker receives honourable mention

Domo’s Covid-19 tracker has received an honourable mention in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards 2021.

Domo has announced that its COVID-19 tracker was recognised in Fast Company 2021 World Changing Ideas Awards with an honourable mention. The Fast Company awards honour the businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that are actively engaged and deeply committed to pursuing innovation in solving health and climate crises, social injustice or economic inequality.

“There is no question our society and planet are facing deeply troubling times. So, it’s important to recognize organisations that are using their ingenuity, impact, design, scalability, and passion for solving these problems,” says Stephanie Mehta, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “Our journalists, under the leadership of senior editor Morgan Clendaniel, have discovered some of the most groundbreaking projects that have launched since the start of 2020.”

As the spread of the virus escalated in March 2020, Domo swiftly created a free, interactive global COVID-19 tracker to curate, shape and share available data, such as infection, testing and mortality rates, from the most trusted sources, such as the World Health Organisation, the Centers for Disease Control and Johns Hopkins University. Domo continually expanded the insights available by connecting new data sources such as economic impact data, mobility data and vaccination data.

The tracker automatically cross-checks the data to ensure that the integrity of the data being reported publicly remains if one source goes down. The data is then presented through one easy-to-use public portal that is free and interactive for anyone to use. Data is updated every 10 minutes, so anyone can explore and understand the growing pandemic from a global level or funnel right down to a particular state or county.

Domo makes it possible for anyone to embed the interactive COVID-19 visualisations into their own website or operations. Domo customers have access to the tracker data using the company’s powerful data connectors, and this data has been leveraged by nearly 800 existing customers in their own Domo dashboards. Domo’s data transformation tools enable these customers to blend key COVID metrics with their own key business metrics as they seek to understand the impact of the pandemic on their businesses and how to operate in this environment.

“Quick access to actionable data has always been vital to running a successful organisation. However, this year, data has taken on an elevated role in helping everyone understand and coordinate a well-informed response in the face of uncertainty,” said Josh James, founder and CEO, Domo.

A panel of eminent Fast Company editors and reporters selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 4,000 entries across transportation, education, food, politics, technology, and more. Plus, several new categories were added, including Pandemic Response, Urban Design, and Architecture. The 2021 awards feature entries from across the globe, from Brazil to Denmark to Vietnam.

Domo’s COVID-19 Tracker recently won the Webby Award and The Webby People’s Voice Award in the Apps and Software: Data Management Category. Domo was also honoured as a Fast Company World Changing Ideas Finalist with CHOICE Humanitarian for their partnership in leveraging Domo and data to eradicate extreme poverty in Nepal.
